  • LANCASTER, PA – The Rutgers University wrestling team swept its quad-meet at Franklin & Marshall Saturday afternoon, earning impressive victories over Franklin & Marshall (38-6), Wagner (48-6) and Delaware State (43-0). The Scarlet Knights improve their dual record to 4-1 on the season, winning their fourth consecutive match.

    Red-shirt junior Ricky Ringel (South Plainfield, NJ), sophomore Mike Ferrara (Effort, PA), freshman John Slevin (Montclair, NJ) and seniors Andy Roy (Wall, NJ), Chris Ressa (Andover, NJ) and John Foscolo (South Plainfield, NJ) each won all three of their matches on the day to lead the Scarlet Knights.

    Against Franklin & Marshall, RU took eight of ten bouts, earning three pins and a technical fall in the process. Ringel started things off with a 15-10 decision over F&M’s Trent Dixon at 125, but Franklin & Marshall tied it back up as Rich Gebauer decisioned red-shirt freshman Ryan Jablonski (Norristown, PA), 6-2. Sophomore Steve Adamcsik (Chester, NJ) got RU back on track with the first of two Scarlet Knight pins in a row. He pinned F&M’s Steve Gregory in 2:15 at 141 and Ferrara followed with a pin of Andrew Smith in 4:56 at 149 pounds. Red-shirt sophomore Gene Zannetti (Edison, NJ) suffered a 5-3 loss to Mike Parziale, ranked 19th in the country, at 157 pounds. That would be the final match Franklin & Marshall would take as Rutgers won the final five bouts to earn the 38-6 victory. Red-shirt freshman Joe Sacco (Johnson City, NY) decisioned Matt Veres, 5-1, at 165, and Roy followed with the first of two pins on the afternoon at 174. Ressa won by forfeit at 184, Foscolo followed with a technical fall (16-0, 4:33) at 197 and Slevin decisioned Ryan McCarthy, 8-1, at heavyweight. With the victory, head coach John Sacchi improved to 14-1 against Franklin & Marshall as head coach of the Scarlet Knights.

    Rutgers surrendered just one match in a 48-6 victory over Wagner, improving RU to 13-0 all-time against the school. The Scarlet Knights earned extra points in five of the seven matches contested while Sacco, Ressa and Foscolo each won by forfeit. Ringel, Ferrara, red-shirt freshman Marcello Medini (Colonia, NJ) and Roy each pinned his opponent, while Jablonski earned a technical fall (17-0, 3:34) in his match. Roy pinned his opponent in 30 seconds. Slevin won his second match of the day, decisioning John Cichon, 2-0. Wagner’s lone victory came at 141 pounds as Mike Tutjuiam pinned Adamcsik in 4:43.

    Rutgers shutout Delaware State, 43-0, to improve to 4-0 all-time against the school. The Scarlet Knights earned extra points in six of the 10 victories, while Ressa once again won by forfeit at 184. Ferrara pinned his third opponent of the afternoon at 149, while Foscolo earned his first pin of the day at 197. Jablonski posted a 15-3 major decision at 133 pounds and Roy fell one point short of technical fall, registering a 20-6 major decision at 174 pounds. Zannetti and red-shirt freshman Ron Kaiser (Fairfield, NJ) earned technical falls at 157 and 165 respectively. Ringel, Adamcsik and Slevin each decisioned his opponent in the shutout victory.

    Rutgers returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 12, traveling back to the state of Pennsylvania to face East Stroudsburg at 7 p.m.
