PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 2, 2014) – Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine (WIN) released its 2014-15 Preseason Rankings Tuesday, with two Rutgers wrestlers making the cut as top-20 grapplers in their respective weight classes.
Redshirt juniors Anthony Perrotti (Roseland, N.J.) and Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) were tabbed No. 7 and No. 13, respectively, in the preseason individual rankings. Perrotti, a 157-pounder, finished eighth at the 2014 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Oklahoma City to become RU’s first All-American since 2002. His postseason run was sparked by a third-place finish at the EIWA Championships from March 20-22 in Philadelphia. He finished the year 22-15.
Smith, who was ranked for most of the 2013-14 season in all three major polls, posted a 27-8 record at 285 pounds, finishing as the runner-up at the 2014 EIWA Championships. He went 2-2 at NCAAs.
Smith is also the active wins leader on the squad with a career record of 54-19, including a 30-5 clip in two seasons of dual competition.
