The Scarlet Knights wrapped up the 2013 Asics/Journeymen Northeast Duals and “Grapple at the Garden” by going 2-2. RU fell to No. 11 Virginia, 21-9, before beating Michigan State, 20-18, at the Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y. The following day the Scarlet Knights dropped George Mason, 29-10, before losing a tight match to Maryland, 19-18 in the “Grapple at the Garden” (Dec. 1).
Four of the Scarlet Knights’ dual starters – freshman 125-pounder Scott DelVecchio (South Plainfield), freshman 141-pounder Tyson Dippery (Harrisburg, Pa.), redshirt freshman 174-pounder Phil Bakuckas (Hammonton, N.J.) and sophomore 197-pounder Hayden Hrymack (Lincroft, N.J.) - boast double-digit wins entering the weekend. Dippery had a nine-match winning streak snapped against Maryland’s Shyhiem Brown, the longest streak of any Scarlet Knight this season. He began his dual career with four-straight victories.
With the 5-2 start, head coach Scott Goodale has guided the Scarlet Knights to at least a 5-2 start in each of the past four seasons. Goodale led the squad to 6-1 starts in 2012-13, 2011-12 and 2010-11.
RU’s trip to Las Vegas will mark the program’s first outing in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in Goodale’s tenure.
