PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 21, 2013) – The Rutgers wrestling team hits the road Friday, Nov. 22 for a dual match with Clarion University. The Scarlet Knights look to become 3-0 to begin a season for the third time in four years against the Golden Eagles.

RU enters the matchup after defeating Boston University, 16-15, in the team’s home-opener on Sunday, Nov. 17 at the College Ave. Gym. Highlighting RU’s five victories in the match was a decision by redshirt sophomore Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) over then-No. 14/14/16 Kevin Innis (AWN/InterMat/W.I.N. Magazine). The 4-1 decision earned Smith recognition in all three polls, as he is now No. 16/17/17.

A 12-3 major decision by sophomore Hayden Hrymack (Lincroft, N.J.), the squad’s only major in dual action this season, proved to be the difference against the Terriers, as redshirt freshman Phil Bakuckas (Hammonton, N.J.) won a 7-0 decision in the final bout to secure the one-point victory.

    Scouting Clarion

The Golden Eagles (2-2, 2-2 EWL) enter the dual after dropping two-straight matches to Eastern Michigan (15-26) and Eastern Illinois (15-21) on Nov. 16 at the Eastern Michigan Duals.

Clarion is led by a pair of ranked grapplers in freshman 149-pounder Justin Arthur, who is ranked No. 17/18/NR, and junior 133-pounder Sam Sherlock No. 18/NR/NR.

    Series vs. the Golden Eagles

The Scarlet Knights are 3-0 all-time against Clarion, winning the last meeting between the two schools last season, 26-6. All three of RU’s wins over Clarion have come in head coach Scott Goodale’s tenure.
