  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 28, 2013) – Tickets for the second annual “Grapple at the Garden” on Sunday, Dec. 1 at Madison Square Garden are now on sale via the Rutgers Athletics Ticket Office. Tickets are available for the designated Rutgers section – section 106 – for $55 each. They can be purchased by calling the RU Ticket Office at 1-866-445-GORU (4678) or by visiting ScarletKnights.com.

The Scarlet Knights, who competed in the inaugural event last season, join Army, Bloomsburg, Boston University, Cornell, Drexel, George Mason, Hofstra, Illinois, Maryland, Penn and Princeton.

“We are excited to be back at the Garden wrestling this season,” said head coach Scott Goodale. “It was a great experience last year. Our student-athletes enjoyed it and our fans enjoyed it. It is just a perfect fit wrestling in MSG”

In the first session, beginning at 10 a.m., Rutgers will take on George Mason. In session two, starting at noon, the Scarlet Knights match up against Maryland, which finished the 2012-13 season ranked No. 24 in the country in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN poll.

In the debut of collegiate wrestling at MSG on Dec. 16, 2012, Rutgers compiled a 1-1 dual split, defeating Chattanooga (28-12) and falling to No. 14 Nebraska (22-10). The Scarlet Knights finished the 2012-13 season with a 16-4 dual meet record, including a 6-1 mark in the EIWA. The squad sent seven wrestlers to the 2013 NCAA Championships, with three of them returning this season – redshirt senior Vinnie Dellefave (Toms River, N.J.), redshirt junior Nick Visicaro (Long Branch, N.J.) and redshirt sophomore Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.).

The Scarlet Knights compete in their first dual on Nov. 3 at Hofstra before returning to “The Barn” on Nov. 17 for their first home match of the season against Boston University.
