PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Sept. 27, 2012) – Rutgers wrestling fans now have the opportunity to be part of the action for the Scarlet Knights’ 2012-13 mat campaign, with the announcement of season ticket sales and renewals for 2012-13 season. Rutgers’ upcoming home schedule and season ticket package includes seven duals and, for the first time in program history, the 2013 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships.
RU supporters have turned out in record numbers during head coach Scott Goodale’s tenure “On the Banks”, and fans have the chance to continue supporting the Scarlet Knights’ rapid ascent into the national spotlight. Rutgers’ wrestlers have won 84 duals under Goodale, including a school-record 21 victories in 2010-11. In the Scarlet Knight leader’s fifth season, RU’s team was strong in front of its home crowd with five home dual wins, including three victories over EIWA opponents.
Season ticket orders can be made online at ScarletKnights.com or by calling the ticket office at 1-866-445-GORU (4678). Season ticket packages start at $142, with special “Mat-side” seats available for $328. Scarlet Knight fans can purchase single-match tickets beginning in late October, with that time also set for the mailing of season tickets to RU wrestling fans. Season ticket holders will see total savings of $19 over day-of-event ticket buyers. Parking is also included in the package.
Phone renewal inquiries to existing wrestling season ticket holders will begin Wednesday, Sept. 26. New this season, renewals will be paperless. Fans are asked to use ScarletKnights.com or 1-866-445-GORU (4678).
Group tickets will be available to groups of 20-49 for just $5 and $4 to groups of 50+ in general admission sections.
The Scarlet Knights’ array of home foes in 2012-13 is highlighted by nonconference matches against perennial powers of the Big 12 Conference and Big Ten Conference. RU will take on Iowa State on Jan. 11, 2013 at 7 p.m., and host two-time defending NCAA champion Penn State on February 24, 2013 at 1 p.m. The Cyclones and Nittany Lions have combined to capture eight national team titles. Rutgers additionally plays host to EIWA opponent Lehigh on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights open their home schedule with Clarion in College Ave. Gym on Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. Rutgers’ next home action will be hosting an in-state tri-meet inside College Ave. Gym with both Rider and conference opponent Princeton on Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. RU welcomes Bloomsburg to “The Barn” on Feb. 8, 2013, with action starting at 6:30 p.m.
The home slate reaches an outstanding finish with the EIWA Championships from March 8-9 at the RAC. The two-day tournament serves as the qualifying event for the 2013 NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, from March 21-23.
Rutgers is also set to face Nebraska and Tennessee-Chattanooga in the “Grapple at the Garden” event inside Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Dec. 16. The day of wrestling in the “Big Apple” starts with the Huskers at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Mocs at 12:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through MSG’s TicketMaster website.
