NEW YORK, N.Y. (June 7, 2012) – Rutgers wrestling is set to square off amongst the nation’s top wrestling programs in the inaugural “Grapple at the Garden, benefitting Beat the Streets” inside Madison Square Garden, MSG Sports announced Thursday. Joining RU for the first collegiate wrestling in The World’s Most Famous Arena’s history are Bucknell, Chattanooga, Hofstra, Iowa, Maryland, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Ohio State. The Scarlet Knights, led by sixth-year head coach Scott Goodale, will face Chattanooga in the event’s first session (10:30 a.m.) and Nebraska in the second session (12:30 p.m.).
“Rutgers wrestling is proud to have the opportunity to compete inside our country’s most recognizable arena, Madison Square Garden,” Goodale said. “The Grapple at the Garden event will bring some the nation’s top wrestling programs to New York City, which is right in Rutgers’ backyard. This is an excellent opportunity for Scarlet Knight fans to be loud and proud in the Garden. Our team and coaching staff will be ready to go.”
The full day of wrestling on Dec. 16 will feature Maryland vs. Nebraska, Ohio State vs. Hofstra and Iowa vs. Bucknell in the first session. Session two will match up Oklahoma State vs. UTC, Ohio State vs. Maryland and Iowa vs. Hofstra.

Rutgers compiled a 13-8 overall record (5-1 EIWA) in the 2011-12 season, qualifying five individual wrestlers for the 2012 NCAA Championships. The RU squad returns six Scarlet Knights who have qualified for the NCAA Championships in their careers.
