December-30-02 RU Wrestling Completes Full Weekend of Competition with Third Place Showing at Wilkes Open
PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers wrestling team, led by a second-place finish from sophomore Chris Ressa (Andover, NJ) at 165 pounds, captured third place at the Wilkes Open to highlight a full weekend of competition for the Scarlet Knights. Competing for the first time since Dec. 7, the team sent its top three wrestlers to the prestigious Midlands Championships in Evanston, IL, while the remainder of the team competed at Wilkes.

December-07-02 RU Wrestling Wins One of Three at Sheridan Invitational
BETHLEHEM, PA - The Rutgers University wrestling team competed at the 22nd Annual Billy Sheridan Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Lehigh, and earned one victory in three dual matches. The Scarlet Knights opened the day with a 41-6 loss to No. 7 Lehigh, fell to Lock Haven 23-21 in its second match and closed the day with a 37-6 win over Slippery Rock. Rutgers is now 2-2 overall in dual matches, including a win over Indiana on November 30.

December-03-02 RU Wrestling Duo Earns National Ranking
PISCATAWAY, NJ – A pair of Rutgers University wrestlers are currently ranked among the top 20 in their respective weight classes. Sophomore Andy Roy (Wall, NJ) and senior Ryan McGrath (Columbia, NJ) are both ranked 19th at 174 and 197, respectively, in different polls.

November-30-02 Austin and Khan Power Rutgers to 19-17 Victory Over Indiana
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – In its first match of the season, the Rutgers wrestling team rallied to a 19-17 victory Indiana, marking Rutgers’ first ever win over a Big Ten foe. Facing a 7-0 deficit, Rutgers won the next four matches in gaining a 16-7 lead. Greg Austin (Seaville, NJ) led the rally with a 14-1 victory at 149 pounds. Amir Khan (Voorhees, NJ) followed that with a first period pin of IU’s Steve Amy, and the Knights never looked back.

November-24-02 McGrath Leads Rutgers at Navy Classic Wrestling Tournament
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Senior Ryan McGrath (Columbia, NJ) cruised through the 197-pound weight bracket with four-straight wins, securing a first place finish, to lead the Rutgers University wrestling team to a fifth-place team finish at the 2002 Navy Classic. McGrath received support from junior Greg Austin (Seaville, NJ) and senior Frank Sabatino (Hazlet, NJ), who took third at 149 and 285, respectively.

November-21-02 RU Wrestling Assistants To Run Free High School Clinic
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers University assistant wrestling coaches Steve Cassidy and Darren Schulman will run a free clinic for all high school wrestlers and coaches prior to the Scarlet Knights’ home opener with Indiana on Saturday, November 30. The clinic will run from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and precede RU’s dual match with the Indiana Hoosiers at 7:00 p.m. Both events will take place at the College Avenue Gymnasium.

November-16-02 RU Wrestling Opens Season With Fifth-Place Showing at OK Gold
BROCKPORT, NY – The Rutgers wrestling team opened its 2002-2003 season with a strong showing at the Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Tournament, held today at SUNY-Brockport. The Scarlet Knights placed fifth with 86 points, while fourth-ranked Oklahoma took top team honors with 183.5 points, finishing ahead of second-place Ohio State (154.5) and Cleveland State (144.0).

October-30-02 Rutgers Wrestling Ranked Fifth in EIWA Preseason Poll
PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers University wrestling team is ranked fifth in the preseason EIWA poll, released today. The Scarlet Knights are tied for fifth in the preseason rankings with Lehigh University. Cornell received the first-place endorsement, followed by Penn, Harvard and Navy, respectively.
