RU Volleyball Cruises Past Texas-Arlington

  • COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Rutgers volleyball team (2-2) defeated Texas-Arlington (1-2) by a score of 3-0 (30-26, 30-26, 30-16) in the opening round of the Courtyard by Marriott Ft. Meade Invitational on the campus of the University of Maryland on Friday, Sept. 2..

    Rutgers displayed a well-balance attack in its first match of the tournament, as five Scarlet Knights posted double figures, including four players with double-doubles.

    Junior Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, NJ) led the Scarlet Knight offense with a match-high 17 kills, while also chipping in 23 digs. Senior Courtney Stout (San Marcos, CA) was strong on the defensive front, as she recorded a match-high 25 digs along with 12 kills.

    RU received strong performances from its newcomers, as freshman Kyra Thompson (Tucson, AZ) registered 13 kills and 15 digs, and freshman Roxy Calder (Vista, CA) led with a match-high 51 assists, while also finishing with 10 digs.

    Senior Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR) and junior Justine Park (Reseda, CA) also recorded double figures for the Scarlet Knights. Young posted 12 kills and a team-high three block assist, followed by Park who tallied 10 digs.

    Rutgers will conclude play on Saturday, Sept. 3, as they go up against host Maryland at 11:00 a.m. and Marshall at 5:00 p.m.
