  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – Shayla Bush (Spokane, WA), a junior on the Rutgers women’s volleyball team, has been named an honorable mention selection to the AVCA Division I All-Region Team, it was announced today. This marks the second time Bush has been named to the AVCA All-Region Team, as she was a Northeast Region first team selection last season.

In 2002, Bush provided one of the most prolific single seasons in Rutgers history, breaking four Rutgers single-season records. She now owns the top single-season marks for kills (479), attempts (1,294), kills per game (4.61) and digs (463) in school history. She also moved into the top-five on the career-records list in three categories. She ranks fourth in digs with 1,008 and needs just 187 more digs to break the Rutgers career record. She is also ranked fifth all-time in career kills (1,102) and total attempts (2,791).

Bush was one of the best outside hitters in the BIG EAST in 2002, ranking second in the conference in kills per game (4.61) and second in digs per game (4.45). In conference games, she led the BIG EAST with an average of 4.85 kills per game, and was second with an average of 4.48 digs per game. For her efforts, she was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.

In addition to these accomplishments, Bush broke the BIG EAST record for digs in a match, with 36 against Connecticut on Nov. 10. Bush had owned the previous mark, as well, when she tallied 29 earlier in the season.

Bush led Rutgers to a 17-11 record this season, and to a 6-7 mark in league play. She led Rutgers in total kills (479), kills per game (4.61), total digs (463) and digs per game (4.45).
