Leading the way for Rutgers was Lauren Venarchik (West Chester, PA). The senior middle hitter tallied 19 kills in 32 attempts, with zero errors, for a hitting percentage of .594. She also tied her career-high for block assists in the second consecutive match, with nine. Junior outside hitter Shayla Bush (Spokane, WA) recorded 16 kills and seven digs in the match, while senior co-captain Pualani Tuyay (San Diego, CA) contributed 41 assists, six digs and four block assists.
Sophomore Dawn Christjaener (Huntington Beach, CA) added 17 digs for RU, while junior Sandra Nunner (Muenster, Germany) had nine kills and nine digs.
For the match, Rutgers accumulated 16 blocks as a team, while the Red Storm tallied just six. The Red Storm were also held to a .170 team hitting percentage, while the Scarlet Knights hit .286.
St. John’s was led by Jackie Ahlers’ 21 kills and seven digs.
Rutgers will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 10, in a 2 p.m. match at Connecticut.
