PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 24, 2014) – The Rutgers University volleyball team has released its 2014 Big Ten matchups, previewing the Scarlet Knights’ inaugural season in the 14-team league.
“We are extremely excited about entering the Big Ten this fall, as we feel it is the best volleyball conference in the country,” said head coach C.J. Werneke. “We are looking forward to competing in the Big Ten and playing against the best week in and week out, both on the road and at home at ‘the Barn.’ Our move to the Big Ten will be a tremendous asset to our program, athletic department and school.”
RU is slated to have home-and-home meetings with Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin. The Scarlet Knights welcome Iowa, Michigan and Nebraska “To the Banks,” and will travel to Northwestern, Minnesota and Penn State.
Dates and times for Rutgers’ inaugural Big Ten volleyball season, as well as the entire 2014 schedule, will be announced at a later date.
The Big Ten volleyball league is coming off one of its most successful seasons in conference history. The conference sent a record-tying eight teams to the NCAA Championship, with five earning top-16 seeds. Penn State and Wisconsin participated in the championship match, the first time two Big Ten teams faced off in the national final.
