RU Volleyball Falls to Memphis on Senior Day

    NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (November 24, 2013) Freshman outside hitter Micaela Anderson (La Canada, Calif.) led the team in kills for the second-straight game, as the Rutgers volleyball team fell to Memphis in four sets (11-25, 19-25, 25-18, 13-25) on Senior Day, Sunday afternoon at the College Ave Gym. Prior to the match, seniors Brittany Bozzini (Saratoga, Calif.) and Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) were honored for their contributions to the program.

    Anderson finished with 15 kills on 31 attacks to hit an impressive .323 on the day. Fellow first-year Scarlet Knight Lauren Cloyd (Champaign, Ill.) also put forth a strong offensive effort, finishing with nine kills.

    Three players finished with double-digit digs to lead the Rutgers’ defense. Sophomore defensive specialist Ali Schroeter (Bakersfield, Calif.) recorded a team-best 13 digs, while both Wright and Ronnie Komisarek (San Mateo, Calif.) picked up 12 each.

    Sophomore setter Anna Sudbury (Tomahawk, Wis.) had a solid all-around day, tallying 20 assists, four kills and three blocks.

    For the match, the Tigers hit .315 and were led by Alexis Wesley’s 13 kills.

    After trailing 0-2 in the match, Rutgers came out strong in the third set, exchanging points with the visitors before a 7-0 run, paced by strong serving from Wright, gave  the Scarlet Knights a commanding 20-14 advantage. RU held on to the lead and closed out the frame with a seven-point victory. The hosts recorded their best attack percentage of the match in the stanza, terminating 13 kills on 28 attacks to finish with a .357 clip.

    The Tigers would respond with an early 7-1 lead in the fourth and never looked back to win the frame and match.

    RU hits the road for its final two games of the season, first facing Cincinnati on Wednesday before concluding the 2013 campaign at Louisville on Friday.
