Nunner Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week

  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – Sandra Nunner (Muenster, Germany), a junior transfer from Germany, has been named the BIG EAST Rookie of the week for volleyball, as announced by the league office on Oct. 21. This is the second time Nunner has been named Rookie of the Week this season, receiving the honor Sept. 9, as well.

    Nunner led Rutgers to its first conference victory of the season on Friday, Oct. 18, at home against Seton Hall. She tallied 17 kills at a hitting percentage of .382 and added nine digs. Nunnner also had a season-best five service aces against the Pirates. Rutgers is now 1-4 in league play and 12-8 overall.

    Nunner is currently ranked second on the Scarlet Knight squad in kills per game (3.62), total kills (232) and attack attempts (519). Nunner is also first in service aces (21), service aces per game (0.33), and is fifth in total digs (100) and digs per game (1.56).

    After 64 games played this fall, Nunner has a season-high of 23 kills, against Virginia Tech on Oct. 11, and 10 digs, accomplished against two teams. Nunner has recorded two double-doubles on the season.

    The Scarlet Knights will return to action with two conference match-ups this weekend, at Boston College on Friday, Oct. 25 and at Providence on Sunday, Oct. 27. RU will face the Eagles at 7:30 p.m., and the Friars at 2 p.m.
