  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 3, 2013) –   Former Rutgers women’s volleyball setter Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) has signed a contract to play for the professional team of Toggenburg, Switzerland.

Zielinski will serve as the squad’s starting setter for the nine-month season, as the team heads to its first tournament on Monday, Oct. 7 in Italy.

“We are extremely excited that Stephanie has this opportunity,” said head coach C.J. Werneke. “She has earned this opportunity through her relentless pursuit of being the very best she can be.”

Zielinski graduated from Rutgers in May of 2013 as a psychology major with a minor in linguistics and was named RU’s New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Woman of the Year in January.

The Florida native finished her senior season with 1,342 assists and dished out 4,255 helpers for her career, both second on Rutgers’ all-time lists. She moved into eighth on the single-season digs list with 351 last season and finished the 2012 campaign fifth in the program’s history with 1,129 for her career. Her 11.28 assists per set ranked second in the BIG EAST conference. Zielinski also earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors (Sept. 17, 2013) and was named to the conference’s Weekly Honor Roll three times last year (Oct. 22, Oct. 15 and Sept. 3). The setter was also named the 2012 Rutgers Invitational MVP.

Zielinski helped the 2012 Scarlet Knights to one of the team’s best seasons in recent history. Rutgers finished with an overall record of 18-12 (4-11 BIG EAST), marking the most wins for the program since the 2000 campaign. Additionally, Rutgers managed its first winning season since the 2004 team went 16-10 and notched its fourth straight season with double-digit victories.
