PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 23, 2013) – The Rutgers volleyball team will host its annual Scarlet and White scrimmage this Sunday, Aug. 25 at 4 p.m. in the College Ave. Gym in New Brunswick. The squad will be split into two teams and the scrimmage will be treated like a regular match. Admission to the event is free to all fans.
Rutgers enters its final week of preseason following the scrimmage, before traveling to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Invitational starting Aug. 30. The Scarlet Knights open the season against Kent State on Friday, Aug. 30 at 5 p.m. Additional opponents for RU at the tournament are future Big Ten foe, Indiana, and Robert Morris.
Sixth year head coach C.J. Werneke will lead his squad in its first home contest on Sept. 11 against former BIG EAST rival Seton Hall. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the College Ave. Gym.
RU will compete in the American Athletic Conference for one season before transitioning to the Big Ten prior to the 2014-15 academic year. Conference play begins on Sept. 27 at home against Houston for the Scarlet Knights.
There is no championship tournament for women’s volleyball in the inaugural season of the conference. The regular season champion will be rewarded with an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship.
