PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 12, 2013) – Fifteen members of last year’s Rutgers women’s volleyball team were named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office.
“We are very proud of the academic accomplishments and the recognition given to our program by the BIG EAST Conference,” said head coach C.J. Werneke. “This is a testament to the hard work our players put into the classroom and their studies, as well as the academic culture they have created. Our staff is extremely proud of their continued academic success and focus.”
Members of last year’s volleyball team who were selected include: Rachel Andreassian (Fredericksburg, Texas), Brittany Bozzini (Saratoga, Calif.), Sofija Cucuz (Crown Point, Ind.), Alexandra Jones (Chesapeake, Va.), Veronica Komisarek (San Mateo, Calif.), Mikaela Matthews (San Diego, Calif.), Kelli Mullane (Fullerton, Calif.), Taylor Nelson (Great Falls, Va.), Kathryn Ross (Orinda, Calif.), Sarah Schmid (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Alexandra Schroeter (Bakersfield, Calif.), Megan Stephenson (Burbank, Calif.), Anna Sudbury (Tomahawk, Wis.), Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) and Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.).
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the Big East’s 15 member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a Big East-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The nominations are reviewed and approved by the Big East Academic Affairs Committee. There were a total of 3,235 honorees among the conference institutions for the 2012-13 academic year.
