PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2012) – Senior setter Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition, the league announced Monday. This is the sixth time in her career and the third time this season that Zielinski has been honored by the conference. She was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Sept. 17.
“It’s great to have Stephanie recognized by the conference yet again,” said head coach CJ Werneke. “She has been a valuable part of what we’ve been doing here for the past four years. She has put in a lot of hard work and has had the help of her teammates around her. This is not only an individual accomplishment, but a team accomplishment as well.”
The Florida native helped Rutgers to its second BIG EAST win of the season over Syracuse (Oct. 12) and led the Scarlet Knights to a five-set match with conference-leader Marquette (Oct. 14). The senior dished out 103 assists in two matches, including a high of 54 against the Golden Eagles. The setter averaged 11.44 assists per set between the two matches.
Against Marquette, she tallied her 17th double-double of the season, notching 17 digs on top of her assist total. In the same match, she passed the 1,000 assist mark for the season and currently has 1,006. It was the ninth time this season she went over 50 assists in a contest. Against Syracuse, she moved into sole possession of third all-time in career assists at Rutgers. She is currently just 11 assists shy of taking over the second place spot, sitting at 3,919 for her career.
The Scarlet Knights continue play on the road, facing Seton Hall on Oct. 19. Rutgers is 19-15 all-time against the Pirates
