Women's Volleyball Falls to First Place Pittsburgh

  • PITTSBURGH, PA - The Rutgers volleyball team (9-14, 3-4 BIG EAST) dropped a 3-0 (30-19, 30-28 and 30-28) decision to Pittsburgh, which remained undefeated in the BIG EAST at 7-0.

    The Scarlet Knights battled extremely hard in the second and third games, improving their hitting percentage and kills significantly from the first. Senior Shayla Bush (Spokane, WA) led the way for RU with 16 kills and nine digs. Juniors Stephanie Travioli (Arlington, TX) and Dawn Christjaener (Huntington Beach, CA) contributed eight digs apiece, while junior setter Abbey Martin (Topeka, KS) led the way with 33 assists.

    Rutgers will return home for two BIG EAST matches next weekend. The Scarlet Knights will host Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7:00 p.m., followed by a match on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2:00 p.m. with St. John’s.
