Women's Volleyball Takes West Virginia in Five Games

  • MORGANTOWN, WV - The Rutgers volleyball team (9-13, 3-3 BIG EAST) defeated West Virginia 3-2 (31-29, 20-30, 34-32, 23-30 and 15-12) to even its BIG EAST record as it played in its fifth five-game match of the season.

    RU jumped on the Mountaineers (5-16, 1-5 BIG EAST) early, hitting .459 in the first game while tallying 20 kills. Junior Dawn Christjaener (Huntington Beach, CA) led three Scarlet Knights in double-digit kills with 18, while contributing 14 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Senior Shayla Bush (Spokane, WA) was the team’s leader on defense with 22 digs to go along with her 17 kills.

    Sophomore Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR) continued to patrol the net for the Knights, registering six block assists and adding 15 kills. Junior Abbey Martin (Topeka, KS) led the team in assists with 58.

    RU heads to Pittsburgh on Sunday, Oct. 26, where it will be looking to push its conference record above .500 in a 2:00 p.m. match against the Panthers.
