SYRACUSE, NY - The Rutgers volleyball team (8-10, 2-2 BIG EAST) evened up its conference record with an exhausting 3-2 (36-34, 30-20, 23-30, 31-33 and 15-13) road win over Syracuse on Friday, Oct. 10.
The Scarlet Knights took the first two games, including a grueling 36-34 first game in which the lead changed numerous times, but needed a full five games to secure their second BIG EAST victory of the season.
Five RU players posted double-digit dig totals, led by senior Shayla Bush’s (Spokane, WA) 17. Bush also led the team with 27 kills and set a career high with six service aces. New Jersey native, freshman Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, NJ) continued to solidify her spot in the lineup by topping her career high in kills for the second time in a week with 16. Junior setter Abbey Martin (Topeka, KS) topped 60 assists for third match in a row with 61 against the Orangewomen.
The Scarlet Knights will continue their road trip when they travel to South Bend, IN, to face No. 15 Notre Dame, the defending BIG EAST champion, on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2:00 p.m.
