NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Rutgers volleyball team (7-10, 1-2 BIG EAST) returned to the court a day after a thrilling five-set victory over Seton Hall and dropped a 3-1 (30-25, 32-34, 30-24 and 30-25) decision to Northeastern (12-6).
The Scarlet Knights battled all day long, but didn’t have enough left to match Northeastern’s stamina.
“The Seton Hall match was long and I think they recovered physically, but they might have been mentally tired,” 10th-year head coach Ann Leonard-House said.
Senior Shayla Bush (Spokane, WA) finished up a strong weekend of competition by leading the Scarlet Knights in kills with 25, while posting 16 digs. Sophomore Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR) contributed 15 kills and junior setter Abbey Martin (Topeka, KS) added 60 assists.
In yesterday’s match against Seton Hall, Bush surpassed Kera Carter
for first-place on the Rutgers all-time digs list, while Leonard-House garnered
her 150th victory at Rutgers. She has an overall career record of 331-220.
The Scarlet Knights will head out next weekend for a two-game, BIG EAST road swing. RU will travel to Syracuse on Friday, Oct. 10, for a 7:00 p.m. match, followed by a trip to South Bend, IN, to face Notre Dame on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2:00 p.m.
