SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Rutgers volleyball team (7-9, 1-2 BIG EAST) took an early 2-0 lead, but needed five sets for a thrilling 3-2 (30-20, 30-28, 28-30, 25-30 and 18-16) victory over Seton Hall (13-6, 0-3 BIG EAST) in which several milestones were reached.
Senior Shalya Bush (Spokane, WA) and junior Dawn Christjaener (Huntington Beach, CA) each scored a double-double to lead the Scarlet Knight to their first BIG EAST victory of the year. Christjaener had 20 kills to go with her team-high 24 digs. Bush led the team with 21 kills, and with her 23 digs, surpassed Kera Carter for first-place on the Rutgers all-time list with 1,203. Junior Abbey Martin (Topeka, KS) set career highs with 63 assists and 14 digs, while freshman Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, NJ) contributed a career-high 15 kills.
In addition to the numerous player milestones, 10th-year head coach Ann Leonard-House garnered her 150th victory at Rutgers. She has an overall career record of 331-219.
Rutgers returns home tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 5, to meet Northeastern in the College Avenue Gymnasium at 2:00 p.m.
