Rising Sophomore Becomes Second Junior National All-American In Three Years

Alex KellyEUGENE, Ore. – Rutgers rising sophomore Alex Kelly (Florham Park, N.J.) completed her first collegiate season, competing against the nation’s top amateurs at the 2009 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, June 27, on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Kelly, who enjoyed an outstanding rookie season, earned recognition as a Junior National All-American with her seventh-place showing in the javelin throw as she recorded a mark of 138’ 8” (42.26 meters).

“Alex’s performance capped off what I think was an excellent freshman campaign in the classroom as well as on the field of competition,” said head coach James Robinson. “She is the first Jr. National All-American since teammate Natalie Clickett achieved the feat in 2007.

In her first season at RU, Kelly won the javelin throw at the prestigious Penn Relays and qualified for the 2009 NCAA East Regionals. She also placed third at the 2009 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship.
