PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman Alex Kelly (Florham Park, N.J.) continued her torrid pace in the javelin this past weekend, as she led the Rutgers women’s track and field team with a victory in the event at the prestigious Penn Relays.
Kelly posted an NCAA Regional qualifying throw of 46.38 meters to finish ahead of 16 other competitors in the college section of the javelin.
On the track, RU’s 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Brittni Rodriguez (East Brunswick, N.J.), sophomore Jamie Walker (Lawnside, N.J.) and seniors Michelle Gomes (Orlando, Fla.) and Pavielli Vega (Orlando, Fla.) posted an ECAC and BIG EAST time of 47.91. The group also competed in the ECAC 4x200-meter relay, clocking a time of 1:37.42 to place seventh overall.
The distance medley team of freshman Kelly Flannigan (Middletown, Conn.), sophomore Latoshia Bost (Crofton, Md.), junior Lesney Elgin (West Orange, N.J.) and senior Cheyenne Ogletree (Garfield, N.J.) placed ninth in the event with a time of 11:55.03.
Bost and Gomes joined freshman Zainab Bisiolu (Union, N.J.) and junior Erin Berg (North Wales, Pa.) to run the Championship of America sprint medley relay. The group clocked a time of 4:00.99 to finish 15th in the event.
Other performances in the field events included sophomore Nwamaka Okobi (Freeport, N.Y.) who placed 10th in the triple jump with a BIG EAST qualifying leap of 11.59 meters. Junior Natalie Clickett (Union City, Pa.) competed in the shot put, throwing a distance of 12.86 meters (BE) to finish 14th. She also recorded a 14th-place showing in the discus throw, recording a mark of 44.57, an ECAC qualifier. Freshman Janet Adekola (West Orange, N.J.) also competed in the shot put with a throw of 11.34 meters. RESULTS
