PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers track and field standout Helena LaMothe (Ridgewood, NJ) is one of 302 student-athletes selected to attend the seventh-annual NCAA Leadership Conference May 25-29 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL.
The senior, who competes in jumps for both the indoor and outdoor track and field teams, was selected from 1,172 nominations submitted by college and universities that have NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills programs, spanning 22 sports from Divisions I, II and III.
The five-day conference opens dialogue on topics such as recruiting visits, party behaviors and sportsmanship, as well as teaching decision-making, problem-solving and improving planning and priority management. The mission of the conference is to have the student-athlete leaders return to their schools and impart to their peers what they’ve learned at the NCAA workshops.
The student-athletes selected were chosen based on demonstrated ability and desire to be a leader as well as the potential to benefit from the workshops. Good academic standing and athletic eligibility are required for anyone to be considered.
“She’s a great candidate,” said women’s track and field head coach Roberta Anthes. “She is outgoing and someone that I know will really get involved. Her personality and outlook fit the honor well.”
