STORRS, CT – The Rutgers women’s track team finished eighth at the 2003 BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Connecticut. The women earned 42 points overall. The University of Miami won the three-day event with an overall point total of 166.
Sophomore Shameka Marshall (Mizpah, NJ) placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles on Sunday, finishing the race in 14.50 seconds.
The women’s 400-meter hurdle event saw senior Danielle Hobson (West Orange, NJ) register an NCAA regional-qualifying time of 58.28 seconds to place third in Sunday’s finals.
Rutgers gained two more points as the 4X800-meter relay team of freshman Nicole Lombardy (Lincroft, NJ), sophomore Belmax DeJesus (Fort Lee, NJ), sophomore Dominique Sanon (Bridgeport, CT) and senior Julie Clifford (Haworth, NJ) finished seventh with an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:01.29.
The Scarlet Knights also earned six team points on junior Kerry Mitchell’s (East Orange, NJ) leap of 5-07.00 inches in the high jump. Her performance qualifies for the NCAA regionals.
Next up for Rutgers is the ECAC Championships, Thursday-Sunday, May 15-18, in Princeton, NJ.
