EASTON, PA - The Rutgers women’s track and field team had superb individual performances at the Lafayette Invitational on April 19. There was no team scoring for the event, but the Scarlet Knights earned four first-place finishes and five second-place finishes.
In the field events, Marsha Day (Leonardtown, MD) placed first in the pole vault with a mark of 10’10” and Kerry Ann Mitchell (East Orange, NJ) won the high jump in 5’7”. Kiara Adams (Westminster, MD) won the shot put with a throw of 13.28 meters and Sophia Anderson (Brooklyn, NY) placed second (13.02). Candice Schultz (Beachwood, NJ) placed fourth in the same event, with a throw of 12.30 meters.
Rutgers swept the first four places in the 10K event, with Jane Albright (Basking Ridge, NJ) winning with a time of 38:04.0. Stacey Muchal (Jermyn, PA) took second in 38:21.42, Claire Tafelski (Westfield, NJ) was third in 39:29.48 and Holly Potts (Mahwah, NJ) had a time of 40:21.42 for fourth place.
Helena Lamothe (Ridgewood, NJ) was second in the long jump (17’9”) and Jacqueline Todd (Willingboro, NJ) finished the day with two second-place finishes. Todd finished the 100-meter dash in 12.33 and the 200-meter dash in 24.90, which is a BIG EAST qualifying time.
The Scarlet Knights will next compete at the Penn Relays from Thursday, April 24, to Saturday, April 26.
