PRINCETON, NJ - The Rutgers women’s track and field team had three first place finishes on the opening day of competition at Princeton University’s Sam Howell Invitational.
Dominique Sanon (Bridgeport, CT) placed first in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:13.01. Jen Austin (Garfield, NJ) won the javelin throw with a toss of 160’ 8” and Belmax DeJesus (Fort Lee, NJ) had a time of 10:07.30 to win the 3000-meter event. Sanon qualified for the BIG EAST Championships and Austin and Melinda Foster (Barnegat, NJ), who placed third in the javelin with a throw of 137’4”, qualified for Nationals and Regionals.
Jamie Kerstetter (Monroe, NJ) placed third in the 3000-meter in a time of 10:25. Sarah Cullen (Red Bank, NJ) took second in the shot put (13.24 meters) and Kiara Adams (Westminster, MD) placed third (12.96 meters).
The mile-relay team of Sanon, Sherry White (Orange, NJ), Agyeiwa Weathers (Jersey City, NJ) and Amonica Phipps (San Diego, CA), placed second with a time of 3:58.3.
Irene Clybourn (Hammonton,NJ) placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.75. Erin Johnson (Morganville, NJ) had a time of 4:40.75 for third in the 1500-meter run and Phipps placed eighth in the same event with a time of 4:46.62. Weathers placed sixth in the 400-meters in 61.63.
Desiree Battle (Syracuse, NY) placed second in the triple jump (37 feet) and Helena LaMothe (Ridgewood, NJ) placed second in the long jump (18’1”).
The Scarlet Knights will continue competition in the Sam Howell competition on Sunday, April 6 and then will travel to Bronx, NY, for the Metropolitan Championships on April 11.
