PRINCETON, NJ – The Rutgers University women’s track and field team scored 45 points to finish tied for fifth place with the University of Pennsylvania at the 22nd annual ECAC Outdoor Championships in Princeton, NJ this past weekend.
The University of Pittsburgh won the event with 133 points, followed by Cornell in second (76 points) and West Virginia in third (48 points).
Senior Shameka Marshall (Mispah, NJ) duplicated her performance from the 2005 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships with victories in both the long jump and 100m hurdles. Marshall claimed the long jump crown on the second day of competition and followed with a victory in the 100m hurdles on Sunday with a time of 13.59.
Senior Amonica Phipps (Amherst, VA) also put forth a strong showing for the Scarlet Knights, as she took third place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.46.
The 4x800m relay team of freshmen Alisa Budd (Toms River, NJ) and Alexis Gray (Toms River, NJ), junior Nicole Lombardy (Lincroft, NJ) and fifth-year senior Julie Delimon (Stanhope, NJ) ran 9:02.19 to finish fifth, while junior Kahimah Liverman (Paterson, NJ) also finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 40’ ½”. Junior Cycerli Ash (Beach Lake, PA) rounded out the scoring for RU with a sixth place finish in the shot put (45’ 10½”).
The Scarlet Knights will compete at the NCAA Regionals on Friday, May 27, and Saturday, May 28 in Randall’s Island, NY.
