PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Rutgers women’s track and field team opened its outdoor season, participating in the Quaker Invitational on Saturday, March 26, at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
On the women’s side, junior Kahimah Liverman (Paterson, NJ) won the triple jump with an ECAC and BIG EAST qualifying mark of 39’ 1” and in the shot put, junior Cycerli Ash (Beach Lake, PA) took first with a BIG EAST qualifying distance of 46’ 6 ¼”. Ash also placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 155’, while senior Claire Inskeep (Sayreville, NJ) and sophomore Amanda Jacobs (Thompson, ND) finished third (153’ 9”) and fourth (132’ 5”), respectively. Ash, Inskeep and Jacobs each qualified for the BIG EAST meet with their performances.
The Scarlet Knights had several other athletes post BIG EAST qualifying marks in their respective events, including seniors Dominique Sanon (Lawrenceville, NJ), who finished second in the 800m, clocking a time of 2:13.09 and Amonica Phipps (Amherst, VA) took third place in the 1,500m with a time of 4:38.37.
The one-mile relay team of Sanon, Phipps, freshman Alexis Gray (Toms River, NJ) and sophomore Elina Ploskin (Fairlawn, NJ) placed second with a time of 3:57.54, while sophomore Zeena Hazuri (East Brunswick, NJ) also took second (16.57) in the 100m hurdles. Graduate student Julie Delimon (Stanhope, NJ) finished fourth in the 1,500m, crossing the finish line in 4:39.19 and junior Maria Pavkovitch (Garfield, NJ) took fifth (18:10.91) in the 5,000m.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 2 at College Park to compete in the Terrapin Invitational.
