  • SYRACUSE, NY – The Rutgers women’s track and field team place seventh at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships held at the Carrier Dome. Pittsburgh won the championship with 161.50 points, securing their third BIG EAST title, having won the women’s team title in 1989 and 1999. Rutgers recorded 50 points, which was a scant three points shy of sixth place and just 7.5 points out of fifth place.

    Scarlet Knights senior Shameka Marshall (Mispah, NJ) placed first in the long jump with a school-record leap of 20 feet, 5 3/4 inches in the finals. Marshall also placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.48. Sophomore Natasha Norville (Somerset, NJ) placed third in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:14.49. Junior Kahimah Liverman (Paterson, NJ) placed fourth in the long jump at 12.15 meters. Senior Amonica Phipps (Amherst, VA) was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.35.

    Other top Rutgers performances included a fourth place finish by the distance medley team comprised of Alexis Gray (Toms River, NJ), Simone Thomas (Willingboro, NJ), Alisa Budd (Toms River, NJ) and Belmax DeJesus (Fort Lee, NJ). Junior Cycerli Ash (Beach Lake, PA) was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 14.19 meters. RESULTS
