PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers men’s and women’s track and field teams finished the first day of the 2004 Outdoor BIG EAST Championship at the Bauer Track and Field Complex on the campus of Rutgers on April 30. Day one was devoted to the first half of the decathlon and heptathlon.
Rutgers junior Trevor O’Grady (Wood Ridge, NJ) led the way in the decathlon, racking up 3,933 points after five events to put him in first place heading into tomorrow’s events.
O’Grady was followed by a trio of teammates in the standings. Junior Greg Ostrowicki (Howell, NJ) is in second (3,733), sophomore Adam Golembeski (Torrington, CT) is in fourth (3,585) and senior Kevin Campbell (Mt. Laurel, NJ) is in sixth (3,310).
For the women in the heptathlon, junior Angela Messerschmidt (Berwick, PA) is in 10th place (1,595) after day one.
The meet will resume tomorrow, Saturday, May 1, at 9:00 a.m. with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon followed by the beginning of the individual events. On Saturday and Sunday, tickets cost $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children 18 and under and senior citizens. Students from BIG EAST Conference institutions will be admitted free of charge with a valid school ID.
