CORAL GABLES, FL - The Rutgers men’s and women’s track and fields teams sent a small number of throwers and decathletes to open the spring season at the Hurricane Invitational at the University of Miami on March 20.
Senior Jen Austin (Garfield, NJ) of the women’s team had the most successful day as she registered a first-place finish (45.80m) in the javelin and recorded a qualifying distance for the BIG EAST Championship, the ECAC Championship and the NCAA Regionals.
For the men, junior Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) began the outdoor season with a pair of second-place finishes. He took second in the shot put with a throw of 17.47 meters and second in the discus with a throw of 54.70 meters.
In the javelin, junior Chris Lee (Mt. Laurel, NJ) took fourth (58.46), while senior Christian Francisco (Bloomfield, NJ) finished seventh (55.33). Junior Trevor O’Grady (Wood Ridge, NJ) took third (6,984 points) in the decathlon and sophomore teammate Adam Golembeski (Torrington, CT) took seventh (6,022 points).
Both teams will compete at the Monmouth Invitational on Saturday, March 27. RESULTS
