Meet the New Women's T&F Scarlet Knights

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J.  (August 4, 2014) – Rutgers women’s cross country and track and field head coach James Robinson has announced the additions of 13 student-athletes to the 2015 roster, including a class that features five all-state selections, a New Jersey state champion in the 200m and numerous top finishes at the New Jersey Meet of Champions.

    Sabrina Alexander - Millstone, N.J./Notre Dame – (Hurdles)

    PRs:

    55 HH – 8.29            

    60 HH – 8.99            

    100 HH – 14.21

    “Sabrina  has  been  a  consistent  Top  8  performer  in  New  Jersey  over  the  short  hurdle  distances  for  the  past  two  years. She  has  won  multiple  New Jersey  Parochial  Group  Championships  and  has  been  a  finalist  at  the  prestigious  Indoor  Eastern  States  Championships. We  feel  Sabrina  has  the  ability  to  develop  into  a  fine  Big  Ten  Conference  performer.”

    Stacey Anning - Ridgefield  Park, N.J. /Ridgefield  Park – (Javelin)

    “Stacey was the 2014 New Jersey Bergen County Meet of Champions Javelin Champion. She is a  hard-working, student-athlete that has the desire to be great. We expect Stacey to develop into a Big Ten scorer.”

    Imani Beauliere - Union, N.J. / Union Catholic – (Sprints / Relays)

    200m – 25.29

    100m – 12.04            

    300m – 41.94

     

    “Imani  was a 2014  New Jersey Second Team All-State selection as a member of  the Union Catholic  High School 4x400m relay team that finished second at the 2014  New Jersey Outdoor Meet of Champions. Imani is a multiple-time New Jersey Parochial Champion from 55m-200m. She  will  add  depth  to  our  young  sprint  corps  and  should  establish  herself  as  a  constant  leg  on  our  sprint  relays.”

    Megan Coakley - Tinton Falls, N.J. /Red  Bank  Catholic – (XC / Distance)

    3000m – 10:47.97                             

    3200m – 10:59.83

    “Megan comes to Rutgers from one of the best distance programs in the state of  New  Jersey (Red  Bank  Catholic – Coach  Rob DiFillippis). She is a real quality runner with an impeccable work ethic and wonderful attitude.”

     

    Julia Despirito - Medford, N.J. / Shawnee – (XC / Distance)

    “Julia had a great senior campaign and demonstrated continuous progression throughout the year. She led her cross country team to a seventh place finish at the 2013 New Jersey Meet of Champions. Julia possesses very good competitive instincts and always gives you her best effort.  She has really good range from 800m-5000m.”

    Deanna Dilandro - Oakland, N.J./Ramapo  – (400m / 800m)

    “Deanna  has  been  one  of  the  best  800m  runners  in  the  state  of  New  Jersey  over  the  last  several  years. She  brings  a  highly  competitive  attitude  and  always  gives  tremendous  effort.  Deanna  will  be  relied  upon  to  contribute  immediately at the  Big  Ten  Conference  in  her  specialty  800m  event.  You’ll  see  a  lot  of  passion and  grit  from  this  young  woman.”

    Brianna Haspel - Lincroft, N.J /Middletown South – (400m/800m)

    “Brianna is a hardworking student-athlete. She’ll look to establish her footprint in the 800m at the Big Ten Conference and add depth to a talented middle distance group.”

    Alexandra Juzwiak - North Middletown, N.J. /Middletown North - (XC / Distance)

    1600m – 5:08.97                   

    3200m – 11:12.09                 

    XC / 5000m – 18:53.43

    “Alexandra is a 2013 New Jersey Second Team All-State Cross Country performer. Alexandra had an outstanding senior cross country campaign and we’re looking for her to be amongst the top runners on  our team. She’ll look to make an immediate impact in the Big Ten Conference.”    

    Celine Mazzi - Monroeville, N.J. /Delsea Regional – (XC / Distance)

    PRs:

    800m – 2:15.52                     

    1600m – 4:54.58                   

    XC / 5000m – 18:43

    “Celine continues the strong running connection between Rutgers and Delsea Regional High School. She had an impressive senior season with multiple top 4 finishes during Indoor and Outdoor New Jersey State Group & Meet of Champions competitions. We’ll look to Celine to make her presence felt in the mile at  the Big Ten Conference and she’ll add valuable depth to the distance squad.”

    Sarah Robbie - Marlton, N.J. /Cherokee / Towson – (400m/800m)

    PRs:

    500m – 1:17.74                     

    600m – 1:39.41                     

    800m – 2:13.30

    “Sarah returns home to the Garden State as a transfer from Towson University. She demonstrated tremendous improvement during her freshmen campaign at Towson culminating in a fifth place finish at the 2014 Outdoor Colonial Athletic Association Track & Field Championships in the 800m. Sarah brings important championship experience and will look to translate her performances at the Big Ten Conference  level.”

    Bria Saunders - Parsipanny, N.J. / Parsipanny – (Sprints / Relays)

    PRs: 

    55m – 7.21                            

    200m – 24.05

    100m – 11.75                        

    400m – 56.89

    “Bria  is  the  2014  New Jersey Meet  of  Champions  200m  Champion  and  New Jersey Meet of  Champions 100m  runner-up  and  we’re  ecstatic  to  welcome  her  into  the  Rutgers  Athletics  family.  Bria was a consensus 2014  New Jersey First Team All-State selection in the 200m. She will arrive “On  The Banks” and make an immediate impact as we transition into the BIG Ten Conference.”

    Oksana Sokolova - Old Bridge, N.J. /Old Bridge – (High Jump /Multis)

    400m – 59.66

    “Oksana is a 2014 New Jersey Third Team All-State  selection. Also, Oksana added the New Jersey State Group 4 and State Sectional high jump titles to her many accomplishments this year. She is a very hard-working, multi-talented student-athlete whose performances had her achieve the top high jump mark in  New Jersey. In addition to her high jumping skills, Oksana will add the pentathlon/heptathlon to her duties.”

    Madelen Soto - Newark, N.J. /University – (Sprints / Relays)

    PRs:

    55m – 7.20                                        

    200m – 24.32

    60m – 7.74                                        

    400m – 56.49

    100m – 11.89

    “Madelen was a 2014 New Jersey Second Team All-State selection in the 200m. In addition, Madelen  finished fourth and third  respectively at the 2014 New Jersey Meet of Champions in the 100m & 200m  dashes. She is a very dynamic sprinter with range from 55m-400m. She’ll be a staple on our relays and  look to score immediately in Big Ten competition.”

    The Scarlet Knights begin their first season of Big Ten competition this fall.

    Last indoor season, Rutgers captured six top eight performances at the American Athletic Conference Championships, placed fourth at the ECAC Championships and won the Metropolitan Championship title with five event victories.

    The Scarlet Knights finished last outdoor season ranked fifth in the final U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region Poll, its highest ranking in history. RU earned a total of five medals along with seven additional top eight performances at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.  The Scarlet Knights also sent six student-athletes to the NCAA East Regional.
