PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 23, 2014) – The Rutgers women’s track and field team was named an All-Academic Team for the 2013-14 season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), it was announced on Wednesday.
To qualify for the team, schools must attain at least a 3.00 cumulative team grade point average. The Scarlet Knights achieved a 3.17 grade point average for the academic year as 12 of the 14 Big Ten institutions were represented.
In addition to their success in the classroom, the Scarlet Knight’s women’s track and field program also had a number of notable athletic achievements as well.
Last season, Rutgers captured six top eight performances at the American Athletic Conference Championships, placed fourth at the ECAC Championships and won the Metropolitan Championship title with five event victories.
The Scarlet Knights finished last outdoor season ranked fifth in the final U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region Poll, its highest ranking in history. RU earned a total of five medals led by rising senior Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) capturing the American Athletic Conference long jump title and a bronze in the 200m. Rutgers also had seven additional top eight performances at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships and sent six Scarlet Knights to the NCAA East Regional.
