PISACATAWAY, N.J. (May 14, 2014) – The Rutgers women’s outdoor track & field team will compete at the ECAC Championships held at Princeton University’s William Weaver Track & Field Stadium on Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18.
Last year the Scarlet Knights had a ninth place finish at the ECAC Championships. The event was highlighted with a third place finish by the 4x100 relay team that was comprised of junior Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.), redshirt senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.), senior Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.) and senior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.). The squad was a mere .02 seconds out of second place, crossing the finish line in a time of 45.40.
Also last season, Gillon placed third in the 100m (11.70), Ruth captured fourth in the long jump (5.94m) and fifth in the 200m (24.14) and senior Ashley Deckert (Newfield, N.J.) claimed sixth in the 1500m (4:29.51).
RU is coming off a sixth place finish at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Farquharson had an impressive performance in capturing the long jump title (6.18m), as well as earning a silver medal with the 4x100 relay team and picking up a bronze medal in the 200m (23.76). Ruth also medaled for the Scarlet Knights with a third place finish in the long jump, as did senior Elaina Mezzasalma (Morganville, N.J.), who collected a silver in the javelin (48.26m).
Following the ECAC Championships, the Rutgers women’s track and field team will be the NCAA East Regionals on May 29 and May 30 in Jacksonville, Fla.
