TAMPA, Fla. (May 4, 2014) –  Rutgers’ 4x100 relay team captured silver and junior Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) picked up her second individual medal with a bronze in the 200m  on the final day of competition at the 2014 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Rutgers finished in sixth place overall.  SMU captured the 2014 AAC Outdoor title with 153.20 points, with UCF claiming second with 138.60 points and UConn in third with 111.60.  The Scarlet Knights captured 62 points.

The 4x100 relay team of seniors Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.), senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) and Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) and Farquharson, clocked in at a season-best 44.97.  The Scarlet Knights were just .1 second behind the winning squad from UCF.

Farquharson, who won the AAC long jump title on Saturday, also raced in a pair of individual finals on Sunday. The junior Scarlet Knights placed third in the 200m in 23.76, a new personal best. She surpassed her previous time of 24.13 from last season’s ECAC Indoor Championships.  Farquharson also placed fifth in the 100m, posting a personal-best time of 11.70. She resets her previous best of 11.79 from the Spec Towns Invite at Georgia in mid-April.

Rutgers was also featured in the finals of the 400m and 800m.  Freshman Nicole Nicholas (Jersey City, N.J.) placed seventh in the 800m, racing to a time of 2:13.58.  Ugboaja took sixth in the 400m with a personal best time of 53.86, besting her previous time of 54.44 from the ECAC Indoor Championships earlier this year.  Additionally,  Ruth finished in eighth in 54.42.

The Scarlet Knights also picked up points in the triple jump and high jump. Senior Kristen Bradley (Medford, N.J.) tied her career-best and placed fourth in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 1.73m (5’ 8”).  Freshman Bryanna Grant (Cranford, N.J.) took fifth in the triple jump at 12.04m (39’ 6”).

The Rutgers women’s outdoor track and field team is next in action at the ECAC Championships hosted by Princeton May 16-18.
