PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 25, 2014) – Rutgers’ 4x200 relay team will race in the Championship of America final on Saturday in the 120th running of the Penn Relays.
The 4x200 team of senior Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) ,junior Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.), senior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) and redshirt senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) took eighth in the opening round heat becoming the final qualifying team to the championship final in a time of 1:35.15.
Last season, the same group broke the school record as they finished second in the Championship of America Finals with a time of 1:32.66.
Also in action on Friday at the Penn Relays was freshman Bryanna Grant (Cranford, N.J.) in the triple jump. Grant placed fifth leaping to a distance of 11.97m (39’ 3 ½”).
On Thursday, Elaina Mezzasalma (Morganville, N.J.) took 10th in the javelin. The senior Scarlet Knights threw for a distance of 45.26m (148’5”).
Saturday’s Championship of the America final featuring RU’s 4x200 team is slated to start at 2:25 p.m.
