PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 17, 2014) -- The Rutgers women’s outdoor track and field team will trek down route 1 to Princeton for the Larry Ellis Invitational this weekend.
At last season’s Larry Ellis Invitational, the Scarlet Knights had a trio place in the top eight of 400m and the 4x100 relay team place third.
In the 400m, junior Christina Dibernardo’s (Woodbury, N.Y.) placed second (55.13) with sophomore Alayna Famble (Stockbridge, Ga.) taking sixth (56.73) and junior Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.) placing eighth (57.28).
The 4x100 relay team of Famble, Hurrington, sophomore Kaprice James (Roselle, N.J.) and sophomore Niyah Lamar (Parsippany, N.J.) posted an ECAC qualifying mark of 46.72 for third place.
RU is coming off its appearance at the Spec Towns Invitational at the University of Georgia last weekend, where the Scarlet Knights captured seven ECAC marks. Rutgers was led by the 4x400 relay team’s first place performance (3:37.97), as well as second place finishes by redshirt senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) in the 100m (11.69) and long jump (6.16m). Additionally, senior Elaina Mezzasalma (Morganville, N.J.) threw for a new personal best in the javelin (47.08m), capturing third in the event.
Following this weekend’s meet at Princeton, the Rutgers women’s track and field team returns to action at the prestigious Penn Relays on April 24-26.
