    ATHENS, Ga. (April 12, 2014)--  The Rutgers women’s track and field team was back in action at the Spec Towns Invitational, hosted by the University of Georgia. The Scarlet Knights earned seven ECAC qualifying marks led by RU’s 4x400 relay team’s first place performance.

    The 4x400 relay team of  junior Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.), redshirt senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.), senior Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) and sophomore Alayna Famble (Stockbridge, Ga.) raced to a time of 3:37.97, the relay team’s best time of the outdoor season thus far.

    Ruth also earned ECAC qualifying marks as the runner-up in the 100m and long jump. She was the top collegiate finisher in the 100m in a time of 11.69 and reached a distance of 6.16m in the long jump for second place.

    Farquharson picked up ECAC marks in the 100m and long jump as well.  In the 100m, Farquharson placed fifth in a time of 11.70 and took third in the long jump at 6.12m.

    In the 400m, Ugboaja placed fourth, logging a time of 54.55 in her first appearance in the event this outdoor season.

    Additionally, senior Elaina Mezzasalma (Morganville, N.J.) captured a new personal best in the javelin. Mezzasalma placed third with a distance of 47.66m, surpassing her previous best of 47.08m in opening the outdoor season at the USF Bulls Invitational.

    The Rutgers women’s track and field team returns to action at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton on April 18-19.
