PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 2, 2014) – The Rutgers women’s outdoor track and field team is back in action this weekend at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary.
Scarlet Knights are the defending Colonial Relay champions which saw senior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) repeat as the 100m champion (11.75), redshirt senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) claim the long jump title (5.93m), as well as first place finishes by the 4x100 and sprint medley relay teams.
The 4x100 relay team of junior Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.), senior Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.), Gillon, and Ruth ran to a first place time of 46.36. Meanwhile Ugboaja and Farquharson also teamed with junior Christina Dibernardo (Woodbury, N.Y.) and senior Ashley Deckert (Newfield, N.J.) in the sprint medley relay for a first place time of 3:57.92.
Last weekend at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond, RU captured seven top 10 finishes along with a pair of ECAC qualifying times in the 100m and 200m by junior Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.).
Farquharson won the 200m in a time of 24.53 and was the runner-up in the 100m, clocking in at 12.01.
Following the Colonial Relays, the Scarlet Knight women’s track and field team will travel to Georgia’s SpecTown Invitational on April 11-12.
