    Day One Results

BRONX, N.Y.  (February 28, 2014) – Redshirt senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) captured the 2014 American Athletic Conference long jump title during day one action at the American Indoor Track & Field Championships at New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory.

Rutgers stands in eighth place with 16 points after the first day of competition.  SMU currently leads all schools with 44 followed by Louisville in second with 39.

Ruth reached a distance of 6.19m (20' 3.75”) to take the title and setting a new personal best for the indoor season.  Her previous best was 6.03m captured at last season’s Metropolitan Championships.

Also scoring for the Scarlet Knights were senior Kristen Bradley (Medford, N.J.) in the pentathlon and the distance medley relay team.  Bradley scored 3,344 points to finish eighth overall in the pentathlon.  The distance medley relay team, which included junior Felicia O'Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.), junior Jillian Grant (Matawan, N.J.), freshman Kaitlyn Bedard (Ringoes, N.J.) and junior Allison Payenski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.), clocked in at 11:47.59 to claim fourth.

Also on day one, Ruth qualified for the finals of the 400m after winning the preliminaries in a time of 53.87. Her time was an ECAC qualifying mark and season best.

Other Scarlet Knights racing on Friday capturing ECAC qualifying times were senior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) in the 60m and freshman Nicole Nicholas (Jersey City, N.J.) in the 800m, both who narrowly missed making the cut for the finals in their respective events, as well as senior Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) and junior Christina Dibernardo (Woodbury, N.Y.) in the 400m.

The 2014 American Indoor Track & Field Championships conclude on Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m.
