BRONX, N.Y. (February 8, 2014) – The Rutgers women’s 4x200 relay squad set a new school record with their second place finish at the New Balance Invitational on Saturday at the NYC Armory.
The squad of seniors Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.), Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.), Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) and Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) clocked in at 1:37.21 and were only .03 seconds behind first place South Carolina. The team bested the previous record of 1:38.32 from the 2012 New Balance Invitational, which Gillon, Hurrington and Ruth were also a part of.
The same quartet also ran in the 4x400 relay. The Scarlet Knight team took sixth with their best time yet this season at 3:40.21. It was 3.77 seconds faster than their previous top time registered at the Terrier Invitational in Boston in late January.
The Rutgers women’s indoor track & field squad will head back to New York for the NY Armory Collegiate on Saturday, Feb. 15.
