BOSTON, Mass. (January 24, 2014) – The Rutgers women’s indoor track & field team saw three Scarlet Knights finish in the top three, including first place time by redshirt senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) in the 500m, along with a total of six ECAC qualifying marks at the Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University on Friday.
After running to first place times in the 200m, 300m and 400m earlier this season, Ruth made her first appearance in the 500m on Friday, winning the event in a time of 1:12.54. She finished .31 seconds ahead of second place Titi Fagade of Fordham with her ECAC qualifying time.
RU’s 4x400 relay team was also among the top three. Seniors Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.), senior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) and Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) along with Ruth anchoring, came in third with an ECAC qualifying mark of 3:43.98.
In the field events, RU was led by freshman Bryanna Grant (Cranford, N.J.) in the triple jump. Grant jumped to an ECAC qualifying distance of 12.01m on her second attempt.
Other notable Scarlet Knights results included a ninth place and ECAC qualifying finish by Ugboaja in the 400m (55.88), a seventh place finish by sophomore Kaprice James (Roselle, N.J.) in the 60m hurdles (8.81) and senior Kristen Bradley (Medford, N.J.) taking 10th in the high jump (1.60m).
Sophomore Paige Senatore (Delsea, N.J.) meanwhile captured a personal best and ECAC qualifying time with her performance in the 3000m. Senatore logged a time of 9:57.80 knocking off over 23 seconds from her previous best at last year’s Princeton Quad Meet and is the second best time in the American Athletic Conference thus far.
The Rutgers women’s indoor track & field team returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 30 and Friday, Jan. 31 for the Metropolitan Championships at the NYC Armory.
