PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 22, 2014) – The Rutgers women’s indoor track & field team is back in action on Friday, Jan. 24 at the Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University.
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a seventh place performance that included seven top ten placements.
RU was led by redshirt senior Asha Ruth’s (Bowie, Md.) second place long jump finish and third place 200m result. Her ECAC qualifying long jump distance of 5.97m currently places her 27th in the country entering this week’s competition. Her 200m time of 24.36 was also an ECAC qualifying mark.
Also on the track, senior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) took fourth in the 60m (7.65), after posting her best time of the season in the preliminaries (7.61), senior Rachel Leeke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came in ninth in the 500m (1:18.80) and the distance medley relay placed second (12:12.34). The distance relay team included freshman Kaitlyn Bedard (Ringoes, N.J.), senior Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.), junior Felicia O’Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.) and junior Allison Payenski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.).
Rutgers also had two additional top ten results in field events with senior Kristen Bradley (Medford, N.J.) taking fifth in the high jump (1.70m), tying her personal best with an ECAC qualifying height, and senior Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) placing seventh in the long jump (5.47m).
Following the Terrier Classic, the Rutgers women’s indoor track & field team returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 30 and Friday, Jan. 31 for the Metropolitan Championships at the NYC Armory.
