PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 14, 2014) – Redshirt senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) claimed her second American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week honor after leading the Scarlet Knights with wins in the 200m and 400m at the Rutgers Invitational last weekend.
Ruth led all competitors in the 200m with a time of 24.68, knocking off .12 seconds off last year’s second place finish at the RU Invite. She then repeated as the RU Invite 400m champion with a time of 54.75, which was not only 1.36 seconds faster from last season’s result, but currently ranks as the fifth fastest time in the country in the event.
Both times were ECAC qualifying marks.
Ruth earned AAC Track Athlete of the Week honors in early December as well, as she helped the Scarlet Knights kick off the indoor season by setting a new school record in the 300m (39.50) and anchoring the 4x400 relay squad at the New Year’s Invitational.
The Rutgers women’s indoor track & field team returns to action on Friday, Jan. 17 at the Great Dane Invitational.
