  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 17, 2013) – Redshirt senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) was named the American Women’s Track Athlete of the Week it was announced on Tuesday.

Ruth helped kick off Rutgers’ indoor track & field season by setting a new school record in the 300m and anchoring the 4x400 relay squad to victory at the New Year’s Invitational hosted by Princeton last weekend.

Ruth was among a trio of first place finishes for the Scarlet Knights.  Ruth took first and broke the school mark in the 300m with a time of 39.50, besting the previous RU record of 39.75 set by Jacqueline Todd at the Princeton Relays in 2005 and her previous best of 39.92 set at the New Year’s Invite in 2011.

She also joined freshman Nicole Nicholas (Jersey City, N.J.), sophomore Alayna Famble (Stockbridge, Ga.), junior Jillian Grant (Matawan, N.J.) in capturing a first place and an ECAC qualifying time of 3:51.22 in the 4x400 relay.  Their 3:51.22 time currently is ranked 10th in the nation.

In other indoor track & field news, RU’s senior Kristen Bradley’s (Medford, N.J.) height of 1.70m that gave her first at the Princeton Invitational currently ranks her 14th nationally.

The Rutgers women’s indoor track & field team returns to action at the Rutgers Invitational held at the Bubble on Busch campus on Jan. 10-11.
