"The team performed admirably for their first trip to the NCAA Championships," said assistant coach Lou Tomlinson. "They represented themselves and Rutgers University well at the highest level of competition."

The RU women’s 4x100 team – comprised of sophomore Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.), redshirt junior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.), junior Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.) and junior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) – finished 14th overall of the 24 teams competing at the championships to earn Second Team All-America honors. RU logged a time of 44.91 as the Scarlet Knight quartet was .2 seconds off their school record breaking time of 44.71 captured in qualifying for the NCAA Championships at the East Regional.

Ruth, the 2013 BIG EAST Champion in the long jump, took 19th in the event on Wednesday going the distance of 5.99m on her third and final attempt.  She earned her second All-American title taking honorable mention honors.

"Asha had another phenomenal year and continued to establish herself as one of the premier long jumpers in the nation," said head coach James Robinson. "Her work ethic is impeccable and it has been a complete pleasure coaching and watching such a tremendous student-athlete continue to prosper."

Farquharson, Ruth, Hurrington and Gillon return to the track on Thursday at 6:20 p.m. in the semifinals of the women’s 4x400.  Senior James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.) will go after the discus title on Friday at 4 p.m.
