GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 23, 2013) – Redshirt junior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) will join senior James Plummer (Toms River, N.J.) at the 2013 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships after taking seventh in the long jump at the NCAA East Regional held at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.
Ruth went for a distance of 6.12m on her final jump of the day to become one of 12 student-athletes from the East Region to advance to the championships in Eugene, Ore. being held on June 5-8, 2013.
The 2013 BIG EAST Champion in the event, Ruth also captured the Colonial Relays and Bulls Invitational long jump titles this outdoor season. Additionally, she placed third at the Georgia Spec Town National Team Invitational and took fourth at the ECAC Championships. Ruth was making her second NCAA Regional appearance in the long jump and will also compete in the 200m and as a member of RU’s relay teams this weekend.
Junior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) just missed advancing to semifinals of the 100m by .03 seconds and took 26th overall. She tied her personal best of 11.60, having also captured the mark in the preliminaries of last year’s BIG EAST Championship, and bested her third-place BIG EAST and IC4A Championship times.
Still ahead for at the NCAA East Region Track & Field Championships for the Scarlet Knights is the 200m, 4x100 and 4x400 relays, as well as the javelin.
